What's the Process?
So what exactly is the process for getting your house painted? For interior painting jobs, the first part of the process would for one of us to come out and serve you with any help we can add in picking the paint color and style you are looking for. After deciding what color and style we can then get started. We will bring in cloth and plastic covers to prevent paint from getting where you don’t want it to be. We then prep the walls that will be painted to make sure the paint will adhere to the wall properly. Then the big step you were waiting for, we apply the new coat of paint. Finally, we clean up the mess and you now have a newly painted room, rooms, home, or business.
When we are doing exterior painting of a home there is a different process. The first step would be to clean the outside of the home or business using a pressure washer. Next, we search the exterior for any loose paint to scrape off, so we have a smooth surface to paint. Sanding and patching may also be needed at this stage if there are any rough spots on the exterior of your home. We then apply the primer paint to the exterior of your home and caulk up any cracks on your home. Then it is finally time to give your house the facelift you were looking for by painting it.
Has the time finally arrived to give your home a fresh sweet coat of paint? At Echelon Painter Spokane we are excited to give your home the top shelf treatment it deserves. We are happy to do both interior and exterior painting on houses. We also are able to take on commercial jobs of all levels. So, what separates us from other painters out there? While we can of course say we only do quality work, what does that mean to you. We show up on time to jobs, and if we get delayed (you know how traffic gets here in Spokane and Spokane Valley) we will stay in touch with you via phone or text to keep you updated. Once on site at your home or business we will ensure that we do not damage any part of the property by painting where we are not supposed to. We will also make sure you are 100% happy with all of the work we are doing.
Painting your home or business is large decision with the innumerable number of different colors out there. We would be excited to lend you our professional eyes to help you pick the best paint and colors to achieve the look you are going for. Painting your house is a great way to increase the value of your home and make it more desirable to buyers if you are looking to sell. Also, if you are getting really tired of how your house looks, painting it can help spice things up a bit and giving you the feeling like you are in a new house. Over time drywall can get damaged, and we are happy to repair it as an additional service as well.

Painting is an intensive and time-consuming task, plus, painting is not for everyone. If you have breathing troubles, paint smells can cause you harm. If you have little to no artistry skills, the painting job can messy and unorderly.
In all honesty, there are a lot of reasons why people hire painters, and the most common of them is the reason that painting alone consumes a lot of time. Tool and surface preparations are a different thing and it also consumes time. If you are a busy person looking to make the exterior or interior of your house beautiful and protected from natural factors such as extreme heat, extreme cold, molds, moisture, and other factors, hiring professional painters like us will make sure you only get professional results without you sacrificing your time and energy doing a tiring and time-extensive task such as painting.
Our exteriors are vulnerable and are prone to a lot of damaging factors such as the heat of the sun, the moisture of the rain, the coldness of the snow, the molds emerging to name a few. Exteriors are still vulnerable even if it is made in concrete. Painting prevents our exteriors to be damaged and prevents them from deteriorating over time.
Leaving your exteriors unpainted never means they will be damaged in the blink of an eye, but leaving them unprotected causes them to become messy, ugly, and damaged over time. Your house is an investment you bought with your sweat and blood, and protecting your investment is the best course of action for a homeowner like you.
Our interiors are not that vulnerable to natural factors compared to our exteriors. But that doesn’t mean our interior has to remain unpainted. There are many several reasons to have your interior painted, here are a few:
You want to make your interior protected from indoor factors such as dirt, dust, and powdering (also called chalking where plastered walls emit a powder-like substance that can be a breathing hazard).
You want to make your house beautiful and oozing with fun and vibrant colors.
It is a common misconception that concrete walls can withstand every natural factor such as moisture without proper sealing and plastering. In reality, concrete walls are very much vulnerable to factors such as rain. Concrete itself is invulnerable against rain, but if we are talking about concrete walls with steel rebars and foundations inside, that is where the problem begins.
Concrete is porous and is not waterproof, concrete’s porousness enables moisture to seep in and damage the steel rebars inside. Pure steel, when meets with air and moisture, expands and causes deformation deep inside the concrete resulting in wall cracking. This however is a gradual process that can be prevented through proper plastering and sealing with hydrophobic sealants such as elastomeric paint.
Painting gives your exterior walls a moisture barrier that protects the steel rebars inside the concrete, further preventing wall cracking.
Your exteriors are painted for a reason, and that reason is to seal and protect your exterior from several factors such as moisture, water pressure, heat, snow, and molds. With that being said, exterior paint is durable and can withstand damaging factors in a long lifespan.
However, there are times where even exterior paint can deteriorate quickly from poor painting methods and poor surface preparations. As a rule of thumb, it would be good for you to walk around your property to inspect your exterior from cracks, water penetration, and chalking.
Once your exterior has accumulated dirt, you can use a bucket of soapy water as well as a brush to scrub off the dirt. If you have a pressure washer, the cleaning process will be much easier and quicker.
Interior paint is not as durable as exterior paint as the indoors would likely be protected from outdoor factors such as moisture, heat, water pressure, and snow. The best enemy of interior paint is dirt from within such as handprints in the wall, splashes of oil, and any other sources.
Maintaining your interiors means you have to clean them before dirt accumulates further. To do this, you have to take note of the paint type as certain paint types are susceptible to cleaning agents. As a rule of thumb, only use mild cleaners to prevent damaging the paint. Also, refrain from using rough cleaning cloths as they can scratch or even scrape off the paint. Use a microfiber cloth or any cloth that is not as rough as a cleaning sponge.
The length of drying up varies and it largely depends on the type of paint being used. Oil paints, also known as alkyd paints typically are longer to dry and require a maximum of a day to fully dry. Water-based paints such as acrylic paints are the fastest to dry up and just usually require a couple of hours to dry off.
For exterior painting jobs, outdoor factors like humidity and moisture can mess up with the drying times. A warm and sunny day can make the paint dry quickly as opposed to a rainy day.
This largely depends on the material that you want to be painted. Latex paints are water-based and have incredible elastic properties. One prime example of this property is that surfaces expand depending on the weather, and latex paint is able to adapt to these surface changes making it resistant to cracks. Latex paint is also environmentally friendly since it has low emissions of VOCs or volatile organic compounds.
Alkyd paint, or oil paints in simpler words, are one of the best paints for wood since it is more moisture-resistant than its water-based counterpart. Oil paints are also easy to work with layouts since oil paints tend to give a smoother look and feel. The downside is oil paints are notorious for their smell and high concentrations of VOCs that is certainly unfriendly for people with respiratory problems.
